BHUMIBAND TO REIGNITE THE SINGAPORE INDIE SCENE WITH “INTO THE FIRE”
Awi Rafael and Bhumiband’s collaboration on “Into the Fire'' marks a reunion and a new chapter for the award-winning band. Formed in 2003, Bhumiband achieved regional success with their first two albums, “Suara Dunia” (2004) and “Konspirasi Dunia” (2006), before going on hiatus. They returned in 2015 with new music and released their third album, “Inilah Dunia (The Bhumi Projek),” in 2021. Now, with original member Awi Rafael back in the fold, Bhumiband is poised to reignite the Singaporean music scene with their first English-language single, “Into the Fire”, a return to their rock roots with a modern twist.
Astute listeners will be able to spot references to the 1990s Britpop bands that veered more towards the soulful, with clear influences The Verve and Embrace.
Lyrically, the single celebrates friends and family, the ties that bind, the very stuff of relationship and unconditional love that makes us uniquely human. Musically, there is a raw, visceral edge to the sound on “Into The Fire” which speaks of a desire to be authentic rather than rely on homemade production values. Certainly a rarity today especially in techno-savvy Singapore that favours electronics over the live sound dynamic.
“Into the Fire” is now available on all good streaming platforms. Follow Bhumiband on Spotify.
